I’m New

Welcome!

Whether you’ve visited lots of churches or not, we know that it’s not always easy to venture into a new building for a church service. We’ve all been in your shoes. If you want to read up on what to expect at Zion, then you’ve come to the right place!

What to Expect

Every Sunday we gather as a congregation to worship the Lord our God. We hear from the Word of God and we respond to His Word together in songs, prayers, and confession. Our public worship services are open to all and we invite you to join us.

A Tip for Visitors: Arriving 5-10 minutes before our service begins is recommended to allow you time to be seated and settled into your place, and prepare for worship with some pre worship singing. If you have children who will be in the nursery, you may want to give yourself 15 minutes.

Greeters

When you enter the church building, one of the families in our congregation will welcome you. If you have any questions prior to the service, ask the greeters or the ushers and they will be eager to assist you. We know what it’s like to be a visitor in a new place and we want to help you in any way we can.

Nursery

If you have small children, you may bring them to the nursery which is to your right and down the hallway. We have a group of volunteer moms and helpers who ensure that children are safe and cared for during the church services. Ask the greeters or ushers for directions to the nursery or follow the signs.

God has called us to worship with our families, including our children. We understand that including the younger children may cause occasional commotion and the necessity of leaving and re-entering the sanctuary but that’s ok. After all, we know what children are like, especially when visiting a new place.

Bulletin

The ushers will provide you with a bulletin that includes our order of service, key contacts, prayer requests, and information on events taking place in the church community.

Tip: Have the back page of the bulletin at hand so that you will be able to follow along during the service as we go through each part of the worship service together. (learn more)

Refreshments

After every morning service, volunteers serve coffee, tea, and juice in our fellowship hall. This is a good opportunity to stay for a while, enjoy a refreshing drink, and spend time in conversation with members of the church. If you would like to talk to the minister, feel free to approach him.

Sermon Availability

Every sermon is posted online within a week and is available to listen or download. Listening to a sermon can be a useful way to refresh your memory on something you heard or reflect more deeply on the passage that was expounded in the sermon. (recent sermons)

Learning more

If you would like to learn more about Zion URC of Sheffield or if you are interested in becoming a member of our church, please contact us in person, by phone, or by email. We pray that you will find our church to be a welcoming community of believers united around the Word of God and the Good News of Salvation in Christ!

We hope to continue to add to the resources available on our website as time permits but we do want to note that web resources are only just the first step in learning more. Visiting our church regularly and getting in touch with the pastor, the elders, or church members will tell you more about the Zion URC of Sheffield than we can hope to cover on this site.

Finally, we thank the Lord our God for the religious freedoms that we enjoy in this country that permit us to publicly gather without fear or reprisals. We pray that your time among us will be a blessing to all!
